Question for current students/parents about housing

Hello,

I recently accepted Yale’s offer of admission. I was looking around the admitted students website, and found a calendar for the 2015-16 school year. On the calendar it says that during breaks the res colleges “close”. Does that mean that the dinning halls and services are not running or that the students cannot live in their suites during those times?

Thanks so much

You mean where it says, “Undergraduate residences close” on December 24? Cannot live on campus.

IIRC, the dining halls close for Thanksgiving and Spring breaks, but you’re welcome to stay on campus.

Unless you’re an international student, you need to leave campus during the December break.

The residences close for Winter break. All students must leave. Those that can’t like international students usually are put in hotels. During the othe breaks they can stay on campus.

Dining halls don’t actually fully close during non-Christmas break with the exception of the three days around Thanksgiving. Dining halls may have limited hours otherwise, but they don’t all close.

The dining halls are closed much more than the dorms. Dorms open early for upperclassmen in fall, and open significantly before classes start for second semester, but the dining halls remain closed much longer. Mine usually uses that as an excuse to frequent Blue State Coffee and go out with friends to Yorkside, but it can be an issue.
