Question for Current Students!

What would you say are some of your favorite things about UNC? Like... what makes you love it there? (& if you don't, what makes you not love it?)

Why I Love UNC !!!

The incredible school spirit at UNC
The friendly bright student body (everyone is so nice here)
The strong academics (tough but good, especially the sciences)
The fantastic national championship caliber varsity sports programs (fan)
The weather (I’m a northerner)
The beautiful campus (especially the spring)
Chapel Hill… Great college town
60% female population (hey… I’m male)
I like wearing “Carolina blue” clothes (at least once a week to a sporting event)
It’s not dOOk

Go Tar Heels!

BOO DUKE. Lol.

Thanks for responding!
I’m considering transferring so I’m trying to gather some information about UNC.

The people are great, the classes are great, the teachers are great. I truly believe that UNC has the most balanced athletic/academic campus in the country. Even the food in the dining halls are great. I grew up a UNC fan and wanted to go there my whole life. After my first semester at UNC, I can honestly say that it has somehow exceeded my expectations.

You are welcome! I just noticed that you are in NYU. I’m from the area and have many friends there. With the exception of academic rigor, the two schools couldn’t be more different. I’d actually say polar opposites. Especially the sense of community, school spirit and the friendliness of the student body. When asked about NYU, I would only recommend it for business majors (Stern) or performing arts (Tisch) given the location, connections and alumni. Otherwise, the negatives of the environment far outweigh the positives.

I’m kind of considering majoring in business but not so much to go into it, more-so to have knowledge of it.

I’m in my first year but I’m definitely having problems with the lack of community here, as well as some of the personalities I’ve come across…

Well UNC is an incredible environment and Kenan Flagler is a good undergrad business school. Sounds like a good fit. You really need to apply for KF in your sophomore year and have their pre-reqs done or at least well underway… So, now would be a good time to make a move if you are planning to.

I wouldn’t be transferring until sophomore year and the program I’m in at NYU is really limiting first year so I only have like one elective per semester.

You must spend at least one semester in the UNC College of Arts and Sciences before you may begin the business program anyway. So, you would need to get the pre-reqs done during soph year. Not impossible. Perhaps you even have transfer credits or AP credit that might help meet some of the pre-reqs (for example, english, stats and calc). Apply mid Soph year for admission at the start of your Jr year. This past year about 50% of the transfer applicants to KF were accepted.

Hey New Yawk,
Im also a prospective oos student. I want nothing more than to go to UNC. Do you mind telling me what you had when you got accepted?
Thanks and go Knicks!!

Hmm. Most of these apply to Duke too. Some of them (like bright student body) are more applicable to Duke than UNC.

UNC is fantastic. Awesome people, awesome food (especially the desserts in the dining halls), and great professors. It’s awesome to be surrounded by people who are intelligent and it’s easy to find something on campus, like a group or club, that interests you!

Awesome! Thank you!
