How easy/hard is it to find work study jobs on campus? Are freshmen able to get decent jobs or do they get taken early by all the sophs/jrs/srs? I guess most of the jobs will be in food service, what other areas offer work that freshmen might be able to get? Any other information or experience with workstudy at AC?

D's roommate worked in the library freshman year. D never worked in the kitchen. But the food service jobs pay more. My understanding is that that jobs are posted and you go after them. She also worked security at parties, etc., her sophomore year, and did other jobs, as well. They will explain all this to you during orientation.

Thanks for the response to my question. I was asking because I have friends at other colleges and sometimes read here about colleges where students who got workstudy as part of their FA end up having a really hard time finding a job and making as much as the school expects them to make. Like there's just not enough jobs available for the students who need work. I was wondering if that was the case at Amherst, but it sound like it's maybe not. That's good!

If you want a job, you should be able to find one. Not that they pay that well, but I mean, that's random college jobs for you.

yeah, you can even get paid for doing community service if you're a WS student: get paid for tutoring, doing habitat for humanity, etc. i work for the center for community engagement.

At Yale they said the minimum wage was like 11 bucks, whats the pay like at Amherst?

usually, jobs pay around $8-$9. but your pay depends on what you do. the highest paying campus job i can remember is a tutoring job at holyoke that pays $15.
