question for current students

hey, I'm a prospective student and have been looking at ucsd because of it's reputation as a good school for neuroscience. Can anyone tell me anything about the neuroscience program there? Thanks.

"it's reputation"

ALL BIOLOGY MAJORS ARE (more or less) THE SAME*

*except bioinformatics and EBE...those are a little more off the beaten path.

Hey there,

I also chose UCSD for its reputation in Neuroscience. I am a Physiology & Neuroscience major, but it goes under the category of Biology. Honestly, the prestige is from the graduate program in Neuroscience. Unless you plan to pursue neuro by doing undergraduate research with a professor whose research is centered around neuroscience you won't get much out of the major than any other biology major. The upper div classes are more interesting, I'll admit than some of the other bio majors, but really don't choose UCSD solely for its reputation in Neuro, bc it's really all in the graduate level--not undergrad. There are tons of research opportunities for undergrads and are relatively easy to obtain, but each requires a substantial amount of time/unpaid, so you probably wont even get a chance to do it until you're taking upper div classes your junior/senior year and your schedules been lightened up. Hope that helps!
