I have a question for current bulldogs. How is the area of New Haven?? Are there nice places to eat or shop? Is it safe? Are there nice places to go off campus to party when your not studying your butt off?? I have watched tv shows that make New Haven out like it's boring and a dump. Of course that's just TV and I know I have to visit before I judge. I know the campus is beautiful I'm just wondering about the area. Thanks!!

This forum is for people who graduated HS 3 years ago. I doubt that many are coming back here to check out this forum. You’re better off asking on the general Yale board

New Haven is reasonably safe (it’s a city, there’s crime, but it’s not that bad, especially around campus) and there’s a strong nightlife with multiple bars/clubs for students off-campus, not to mention the parties always happening on campus.

The crime that’s happened in New Haven during my first semester has not been on or near the Yale campus, if I’m not mistaken. I have never felt unsafe during my time here. There are some good restaurants and decent stores pretty much on campus; if you want to do some intense shopping you can take a bus to the mall or even take a train to NYC (there have been 2 subsidized trips there that I’ve been on already). Overall, I think it’s much nicer than people make it out to be. Also, there really is so much to do on campus that you shouldn’t have to worry about being bored. There are many, many on-campus parties and also Toad’s.
