Question for Econmajor

Hi, I have a question I was hoping you could answer. I actually asked one of the students, through email, who are listed on the Mac Admissions website but he never responded. Doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. Anyway, I got deffered from my ED school and Mac is my second choice. I play softball and have talked with Coach Cross. He is a good guy and I would love to pitch for Mac but one thing bothers me. Is the Macalester student body really as liberal as people and college reviews say? In the Princeton Review it is listed as the 19th most liberal college. I am not crazy right wing but definitedly lean towards the conservative side. I love intelligent political debates but I do not want to be the only one defending my position for 4 full years. Will I feel out of place at Mac? Please be honest I really just want to be happy for the next four years. Okay, I also want a great eduction and to get into law school but being happy ranks right up there! Any input or advice is appreciated, thanks.

Sorry you never heard back from the admissions boy-- it's finals right now, so he might have just forgotten to write to you.
Mac isn't as liberal as everyone says-- it's liberal, but it used to be a lot more so (in the 70's especially) and the reviews remember that. Also, the baseball team is a relatively conservative/ apolitical bunch (the former is good for you, the latter doesn't sound like it's a match). Also, the econ department is pretty moderate.
I'd apply regular, see what schools you get in to, and then make up your mind.

Thanks for the reponse, it helps. I am going to come spend the night at Mac in February, that should help. Coach Cross is setting up the visit so I will get to meet all the women on the softball team, that should be a good indicator of how I would feel if I were to attend. As far as admissions boy - I emailed over two weeks ago but no big deal. I really do appreciate your response and will keep an open mind when I visit. My mom went to Mac and loved it. She swears I could be happy there and she knows me pretty well! Thanks again and enjoy your very long break (I'm jealous).
