IF you had a CAR on campus then how much was your CAR INSURANCE PREMIUMS???

I plan on bringing my car that's worth about $5k up with me. I live on Long Island where car insurance is beyond astronomical for younger drivers (I pay about $500 a month for it). I want to know if my parents and I will be able to comfortably afford the car insurance.

Please also name your county.

(Anybody around 18-22 who lives upstate can answer this whether they're attending college or not).

Also interested in this for the future…

I have absolutely no clue but wouldn’t it be easier to contact your insurance company and ask them?

You can use any number of on line estimators. The answer depends on too many things. Are you on your parents’ policy, is the car in their name, what kind of insurance do they have, family and student driving record, what kind of car, any package deals, etc, etc.

I live in Onondaga County and go to school in Syracuse so this may not be that relevant for what you want. I do know that through my insurance however, I get a discount if I have a GPA above 3.3, or something like that. You could check if your insurance company does something like this. A lot of people have cars, and I cannot believe it can be more expensive if you are already the primary driver. Sorry if I couldn’t be more helpful.

ESFsailor, do you mind sharing with us your monthly premium?
