"Do UC schools only check 10th and 11th grade?"

They only count 10th and 11th grades when computing the UC GPA. They do look at the courses you took/are taking in your freshman and first semester senior year. They want to know if you challenged yourself during both those years--or if you decided to just "skate"--especially in the senior year.

But, obviously--the 10th and 11th are the most important, since only the regular courses and honors courses during these periods count toward the UC GPA. (P.S. They will only count the first 8 semesters of honors/AP/IBs taken in these years towards the UC GPA--but they will look at how many you have taken in determining admissions--especially at UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego.)

They ask what you plan to take in 12th grade to make sure you meet all the sections of the A-G list. Also, UCB and UCLA sometimes send out supplemental questionnaires and ask for your first semester senior grades.
