<p>Whats the deal with protein stuff? It seems necessarily to get big arms and all. (I have strength and all, but not really big muscles or anything).</p>

<p>Protein shakes are usually just pure whey/casein protein, from a milk isolate or blend. You need a lot of protein to put on and maintain muscle, as well as to keep your metabolism up for burning fat, and protein shakes are just a convenient alternative to eating four chicken breasts or twenty cans of tuna or whatever. They're especially crucial when cutting (losing fat) because they preserve muscle from being consumed when the body is getting less calories than it burns. </p>
<p>I would say that nearly every guy I know who looks good with his shirt off uses protein shakes daily. They aren't necessary for a good body composition, but they might as well be. Also they don't promote muscle bulk unless you lift specifically for that, so ladies who are interested in Angelina-arms use them as well.</p>
