Question For International Students!!!

Well, I'm taking both SAT and TOEFL IBT in Oct, like 2-3 months till the test date. So I'm taking much of time on SAT, cuz I just think when I'm preparing for SAT, preparation for TOEFL is going with it. Am I right???
Oh yes, for the listening section, I started watching american TVs.
And i guess, the essay, grammar and reading sections dont differ from those of SAT.
I'm going to attend speaking club ASAP for the speaking section.
what do you think??

c'mon guys, 10 view, but no replies!!!

anyone? .

Isn't TOEFL a little bit different? At least buy or borrow TOEFL preparation book and look through it before you take it. Good luck.

ok. i've downloaded ETS TOEFL IBT PREP BOOK in pdf. kk

Yeah, Tseng, the SAT grammar is a CRAPload different from TOEFL's. I practiced grammar several years back with the TOEFL Sparknotes book (which is very good), and it did help me immensely with grammar because it's more picky than SAT grammar. Looking back on it, SAT tests a lot of "sense" one gains by growing up in the US while TOEFL is straight up by rules and memorization. I mean, I guess you could score rather well on the SAT by studying TOEFL, but you're going to spend much time on the questions pondering them and breaking them down into clauses, etc...I recommend you study SAT and TOEFL. Other international folks I've socialized with seem to have had this experience

thanks. that was just what i wanted.

TOEFL iBT doesn't have a grammar section :|. It only has Reading, Listening, Writing (2 essays) and Speaking.

Is IBT reading somehow similar to SAT CR? same question about the essay.

I score 600~650 on SAT CR and I find TOEFL Reading section easy. Just make sure you are familiar with test format, then u should be fine.

Oh, 'IF' you are Korean, I know some sites that can really help you on TOEFL.

Sorry, I'm from Mongolia.

Dude Toefl is completely different from SAT so you gotta prepare them differently. Buy those Toefl CDs

Hi, I'm from China, and I guess we have the same problem.
I'm taking toefl on Dec and SAT next Jan.
Personally I think a decent SAT CR/W score can ensure you to do pretty well in Writing/Reading sections in Toefl, but you have to prepare for the Listening and Speaking sections carefully. And make sure that you have finished reading Toefl OfficialGuide before taking the test. Getting familiar with the test format is soooooo important.

I just gave the toefl and found the grammar section pretty useful for SAT, mainly writing section. i think preparing for toefl is more useful to SAT then preparing for SAT is for TOEFL.

Yea, recently I've found out that former Toefl's Grammar Section was pretty much similar to that of SAT. And essays are not much different. I can still use my 5 paragraph structure on iBT.
