question for my cousin in HS

I remember that UCs only looked at soph and junior years to calculate GPA, and they only look at A-G courses.

Does that mean that any A-G courses taken in freshmen and senior year don't count toward the GPA even if it's "meant" to be taken in soph/junior year, for example, AP calculus or something?

Thanks

I can’t confirm that for freshman but I believe it is so for senior year. Applications are due at the end of November for UCs so senior grades are a non-factor in terms of acceptance letters.

A-G courses are simply mandates for your being able to apply to UCs. Second and third year GPAs are a separate matter. Point is: complete the A-G requirements. Your GPA for your second and third years is calculated for your UC GPA based on whether or not they’re A-G certified. The two facets are not mutually dependent upon each other.

i believe they look at all your graded courses.

While senior grades are not available yet and therefore not considered in admissions, D’s and F’s can cause your admission to be possibly revoked. Grades prior to sophomore year go on your application, so I assume they at least have the option of considering them, and the classes in which you enroll for senior year do have a bearing on your admissions decision (even though the grades you receive in those classes do not). The admissions officers like to see that you do not lose your intensity/slack-off senior year.
