Question for Seasoned Bama People

Hi,

I have been a reader of this forum for a while now. In the past several months my 10th grade daughter has expressed an interest in an out of state college- specifically Bama. For the past several months she often wears her Rammer Jammer sweatshirt and her Bama tee shirts, lol. She is interested in a photography and/or graphic design major. We have a tour scheduled for 6/14/13 and will be driving from South Florida to Bama. She would like to speak with someone from the art dept. about her specific area of interest in addition to taking the tour. Who would I call to arrange such a chat?

Thanks!

I see no one has replied yet perhaps due to no one having direct experience with your specific inquiry. Maybe your local recruiter could assist? I know ours for the Atlanta area would be a good resource. Here is a link to FL recruiters: [Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](http://gobama.ua.edu/states/florida/)
Hope this helps!

My daughter is an art major. The art department has Art Ambassadors, but she doesn’t know if any are on the campus during the summer. The best way to set up a tour is to contact the department, (205) 348-5967. They should also be able to help with meeting someone about her interests.

[Contact Us « The University of Alabama Department of Art and Art History](http://art.ua.edu/site/contact-us/)

Thank you so much. I am going to call the department and see what can be arranged. I have a feeling she is going to like what she sees so we will probably also visit during the fall when school is in full swing.

Thanks again!

We’re in GA, and our area recruiter set up everything for us. Just told him what my D was interested in, and that was that. We got to talk to Honors, a journalism professor, the XC coach, got to eat in one of the dining halls as well as the admissions session and a campus tour. It was a full day but well worth it and the best way to really get a good feel for the school. The campus was immaculate, and everyone was very helpful and friendly. It’s high on my D’s list of schools and mine too. Especially with the right test scores and GPA, a great bargain for OOS.

Also, check into the Honors College requirements to see if you think your daughter would qualify. She still has a good bit of high school yet to complete, but you can probably reliably forecast where she might be. The Honors college will also set up tours and make departmental appointments for potential students.

Contact Casie Tate , she handles south florida and is the BEST

[Casie Tate, Regional Recruiter - Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](http://gobama.ua.edu/recruiters/casietate/)

I just sent Casie Tate an email. Thank you, Bubbalicious! Spacecoastmom- she has a good gpa and is aware that her junior year grades will be the last set of grades that will count for college applications. So far so good but she must continue and I hope she is able to qualify for the Honors College. Musicmom- I have a feeling we are going to really like what we see. It sounds like you were definitely impressed. It really is a great college.

I agree with the idea of having the area recruiter arrange things. Also, if your D is a strong student and likely will qualify for the Honors College, then contact Allison Verhine and Susan Alley in the HC as well. Tell them what your plans are and what the recruiter has arranged and let Allison and Susan fill in the rest.

Interested in this thread but not on my computer. Can someone post what the Honors requirements are here?

Thank you!

I read the info but didn’t see anything about smaller classes. Can anyone tell me anything specific about the program, it’s highlights? My daughter qualifies. Thanks.

The class sizes are limited to 15 kids each.

Here’s a reference to the class sizes in this Q&A

Do I have to pay additional fees for my Honors classes?

Absolutely not. The University of Alabama does not charge additional fees for its Honors courses. Even though the class sizes are significantly smaller for our Honors courses (e.g. 15-student seminars), you will not be charged an additional fee. This is an example of our administration’s commitment to providing exceptional services for our outstanding students.

Thank you!

Thank you! This is wonderful information and thank you M2CK for the contacts. I can’t wait to see the campus. Ms. Tate has been in touch with us and I believe she is making arrangements. I will contact Ms. Verhine, as well.

This board is full of parents who are very happy with UA- that definitely speaks for itself. :)
