question for summer interns living at GWU

Hey guys, hope you're all doing well...

I've got a question about summertime at DC. I'll be living in Mitchell Hall over the summer as an intern (so I can walk to work, woohoo!) and was wondering what the deal with safety is around those parts of campus. Is this "campus escort service" available for free at all times when I would like to go somewhere, or is walking later at night (particularly alone) just a no-no? If I wanted to go to the gym every night after work (for example), could I just call up campus escort to pick me up and drop me off each day, or would this just anger them?
And basically, if I'm going to work at 8 ish in the morning and getting back at 6 ish at night, would I have anything to worry about (safety-wise) if it's about a 1 mile walk to Three Lafayette Center? I mean, it's still bright outside haha

If anyone could explain about safety in general and some useful tips, that would be awesome and will probably save me a mugging :p

I second this question! As for a couple of other questions, any advice on what is the cheapest or best way to get around GW/places nearby? I know there's the metro and at least one other method of transportation. Another thing-for summer interns staying in GW dorms, should I bring a laptop, and would we be able to use the computer labs located in the dorms?

Super safe for a big and busy city like DC. Remember, you not only have GW police, but CIA, FBI walking around at all times. just use caution, try not to walk in quiet streets though

fa-la-la-lena, so you'll be living in Mitchell too? Cool!, what floor?

I really don't know about what dorm/floor assignment yet (i know it has a kitchen, that's it!). I'll just be there for July so its a ways off

Mitchell and the surrounding area is perfectly safe. In fact anywhere in N.W. is safe, it's only when you start to wonder outside the quadrant into places like South East that it becomes a little hairy.

Oh, and yes bring your laptop as dorms do not have computer labs.

oh thanks qwilde. Hmm, i was under the impression that most dorms have computer labs in them :D

To be honest; I don't think any of them do. The Marvin Center and Gelman do though.

ok, good to know. Just found out that I was placed in Guthridge hall (2115 F st). Anyone know about this dorm...what is it close to?

Are you a Sophomore Fafalena? Guthridge is triples only and is not listed as a choice for freshman

How are you guys gettin housing already/ Or is this just for summer?

First of all, you guys are talking about different things. The housing assignments for freshman will come out in mid-july. I have a friend who works in housing and he just told me that May 20 is the last day to edit the application but freshman can apply for a room swap if they find someone they'd like to room with.

As far as summer interns, GW students on campus during the summer generally have problems mixing with interns. Interns, don't get clingy, hang out with GW kids but find your own circles.

falalalena - Guthridge is nice, with kitchens. Go for it!

I am staying in the West End--is this a nice dorm?
I'm so looking forward to interning!!!!!!!!!!!!!
