I hope someone who was accepted ED2 this year can tell me if they got their financial aid info at the time of acceptance or not. The reason I am curious about this is a classmate of D was accepted ED2 to Vandy. She just told my D that she has NOT withdrawn any of her other applications or admissions (one was a 24K scholarship to Tulane per year) because she is waiting to see what else comes in the mail from those schools!
When I emailed the mom after her D was accepted to congratulate her, I got an interesting reply that they were excited but still had to figure out a way to pay for Vandy!
I confess that my daughter, who is friends with this girl, is really p...d now because not only is she a much better student in every possible way compared to this girl, but she has decided Vandy is her first choice.
I think my D already has some great early notification admits and will get some more to great schools soon, so I am not upset about this. I am concerned that her classmate and mother may truly be innocently unaware of the potential risks of not complying with ED rules.
I don't feel that comfortable contacting the mom since I did not hear the girl say this exactly, but I would also hate to see her get hurt by minding my own business.

ED gets a financial aid estimate, if you had your forms in (fafsa, css). official fin aid comes in april.

My opinion would be to leave it alone, they are not complete idiots if they got into vandy and probably know what they are getting into.

When D was admitted ED, it was expected that the matriculation deposit would be sent in within a matter of weeks. Even if she hasn’t withdrawn other applications, I would assume they have paid that to secure a place in the class. I don’t have a dog in this fight, but it annoys me to read of people who don’t take the ED commitment seriously and I can completely understand your D’s feelings.

My S was admitted ED1 and he quickly withdrew all his other applications. Not only does Vandy directly say this in the acceptance letter but his high school has reiterated it for months (I heard it can make the high school look bad if kids keep their “options open” after an ED acceptance). We did not apply for FA but I know that the “rule” applies to everyone.

Thank you all for your answers to my question. The family in question is a bit on the quirky side and both mom and daughter tend to act pretty spacey at times so I am not sure they realize the potential consequences of what they are doing. I guess they will have to find out on their own.
