QUESTION for those who have already been accepted to UCB...

hey people, im going to be a senior this upcoming year and of course im a little worried about my chances at certain places and what not....so instead of me posting all my stats for now and people responding, can some of you Golden Bears who have been accepted within the last year or two post some of your stats....just like gpa, sat, maybe a quick summary of ECs and such??

thanks this would be great!!!

GPA UW 3.67
GPA UC Weighted 3.96
(However I go to a school that sent 50 to Cal this year and ranked #26 on that Ranking of High Schools that was a buzz a bit back whatever that stands for)

SAT I: 2300
ACT Composite: 35
SAT II-Math IIC: 800
SAT II-US History: 800
SAT II-Physics: 680

APs: Euro (5), Psych (5), US Hist (5), Macroeconomics (5?), Microeconomics (5?), US Gov't (5?), Comparative Gov't (5?), Physics C: Mech (3?), Physics C: E & M (3?)

ECs: I work for my family's business a lot, so no clubs and no Community Service.

UC GPA UW: 3.95, W: 4.35
SAT I: 1990 (660 CR, 650 M, 680 W)
SAT IIs: 710 U.S. History, 600 French
APs: U.S. History (5), AP Eng (3), AP Calc AB, AP French
ECs: Soccer, Dance, ASB
School had 22 Cal acceptances and 32 UCLA
I got rejected from UCLA, but got in at Cal and I know people that had the opposite. At Cal, I really think they look at you more as a person than stats. Yes, high grades and/or SAT's get you knocking at the door, but a well written, genuine essay will get you in (IMHO). Pick something to write about that is close to your heart. Good luck!

GPA: 3.95 UW | 4.3 UC | 4.4 W
SAT I: 640 R | 680 M | 740 R
SAT II: 730 Chem | 770 Math IIC
AP: 4 Chem | 5 AP US History | 5 AP Comp Sci | Dunno about Calc and AP Gov & Politics yet

AP's: CALC AB: 5, US: 4, GOV: 3
EC's: Varsity Captain of Swim Team that won the City Championship (i'm not swimming at berk though), Speech and Debate, Acadeca, Intern at a Senator's Office for three years and part of his program called Young Senators.

Per the application date (November 2005)

UW GPA 3.8
W GPA 4.03
SAT I: 1960
SAT II: US History 740, Biology Ecology 750
AP: World History 4, US History 4, English Language 4, Biology 4
EC: 3 years varsity swimming (not including senior year), year of varsity water polo (not including senior year), 240+ hours community service, year-round swim club all through high-school (5:00 AM practices SUCK!)

Must have gotten in because of my damn good essays, nothing else really explains it (maybe my Mexican ethnicity explains it?); My school's rank in the controversial Newsweek rankings was #112, sent over 10 people to Berkeley this year and 5-10 to UCLA, never knew my class rank

from what you all are saying it seems that the essays hold alot of weight in the admissions process....thank you all though for the help!

I'm sorry, I really don't think essays hold that much weight...they really don't have time to read them with so many applications. either way, here are my stats:

GPA: UW: 3.85 UC GPA: 4.10 (? i think...)
SAT I: 2160 (800V 650M 710W) (remember UCs only use one sitting)
SAT II: US HIST:720, MATH 2 C: 670
AP's: CALC AB: 4, US: 4, Spanish 4, took five more tests this year.
EC's: Journalism! 3 newspapers, including one professional press that i get paid to write for. Politics! 3 politicians. Jobs! etc.

"I'm sorry, I really don't think essays hold that much weight...they really don't have time to read them with so many applications. either way, here are my stats:"

Essays are very important.

Thanks for the strong statement, with support to go along with it.

Another thing to take into consideration is that they admit you to a certain major, and some are more selective than others. This means that applying to Berkeley's EECS major will make it more difficult to get in, as opposed to applying as a History major in the College of L&S.

As for me,
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.6 (Academic GPA, 10-11) W
SAT1: 2160 (760 Math, 710 Verbal, 690 CR)
SAT2: Chem 800 MathIIc 800 U.S. History 700
EC: Speech n debate, student government, community involvement (work with district school board), Eagle Scout
Decent, not great, essay

Major: Bioengineering

GPA UW: 4.00
GPA W: 4.6

SAT I: 2210
SAT II:
Math-800
Literature-710
Biology (M)-710

ECs: Student government (class president for four consecutive years), elected to a city commission twice, two first-author published papers w/invitations to speak at 30+ conferences and venues, many college credits from UCLA, about 10 hrs/week work, a few other things.

Major: History with a Regent's Scholarship
elected to a city commission twice
Do you really mean 'elected'? I think you mean appointed...

when you say "only use one sitting" does this mean that they will take your best sitting overall compared to a highest compilation??

so say your 2nd sitting you do better than your first, then would be that the one they would take?? im guesing so....

my ECs and GPA are comparable to all of yours, but those nagging SATs, lol....1990 :-/ 1370/1600
im definitely happy, but know i can do alot better....plus i am OOS

SAT I: 1910
SAT II Phys: 740
SAT II Chem: 760
SAT II Math: 760

GPA: 4.75

AP Chem: 5
AP Phy: 5
AP Stat: 4
AP Eng Comp: 3
AP US: 4
AP World: 4

Class Rank: 12/600ish

Only about 5 people are going to Cal from my school this year. 10ish to LA.

I was admitted by both LA and Cal. I believe the essay was the most important factor. Write something that presents yourself in a unique and impressive perspective.

UW GPA: 3.83
W UC GPA: 4.33
SAT I: 2090
SAT II: Biology:M-760, US HISTORY-740

EC's: Started the "Free Thinkers Association" Senior Year, Vice Pres of book Club, Arabic Language Lessons and thats about it...

IN STATE!

UC GPA UW: 3.8?, W: 4.0
SAT I: 2110 (660 V, 650 M, 800 W)
SAT IIs: 740 US History, 710 Lit
APs: U.S. History (5)
ECs: Newspaper section editor; officer of Democrat club, speech club, Amigos Club; three years on swim team; study abroad trip to Latin America; barista in coffee shop...

I'm Chinese, female and in-state; nothing particuarly special about me. Whether or not your stats "compare" to those of others, if you want to apply to Berkeley -- do it.

a lot of instate stats, i'll post some OOS stats...here are some stats of me and my friends (we're all from NJ). our high school was ranked 3rd in the state for SAT scores (average is around 1400 i think)

here are the other two kids in my class who applied and were rejected:

SATII: 740 in all 3 of his SAT IIs
ECs: all-national/all-eastern/all-state chorus, nationally ranked in tae-kwon do, captain of golf team, varsity fencing, and a bunch of other national/state activities

friend C:
gpa:around 95
SAT: 2170

Hope this helps
