Hi everyone

So recently I was pretty much rejected from all of my reaches, including Columbia. I plan on attending one of the state schools in Texas, which I was dreading but have come to accept it now. So if I consider transferring for sophmore year...is it even possible?

Do I have to have the 4.0? Also I hear transferring is mostly based on grades...does this mean it doesn't matter if I even have any EC's? I originally wanted to transfer to another school with a higher acceptance rate...but the more I read up on Columbia the more I want to be there! Any feedback would be helped! =]

also does your major play any role in admissions? say being a typical asian I don’t want to do medical or whatever…does this matter?

come on guys, ten views and no comments?

Well I plan on doing this as well, being rejected from Columbia, but I also plan to do SEAS instead of CC this time. I don’t know if major makes a difference; however, they do want to make sure you took a rigorous course load at your previous school. Also try to take prerequisites of things if you’re doing SEAS like beginning calc/chem/phys and stuff. Also, build up a good relationship with a potential rec writer, begin to think of good reasons for your “why columbia” essay, and prepare a head of time. Yeah grades matter, but they also want to see one or two passionate things (that you can start or continue in college at your state school AND maybe columbia) as EC’s. Also if you’re doing for sophomore year, HS record still counts some along with standardized testing scores. I am not sure if you can retake SAT’s in college FOR transferring though, it may depend on the school, if you find out can you post it here? heh. GL with your first year.
