Question for UCDAdmissions/anyone who knows

I noticed you wrote in another thread that basically anybody who has the required classes and the GPA will be accepted as a transfer student. Were you referring to the overall GPA or the science GPA? I'm just wondering because my overall GPA is around a 3.15, but my science GPA is only pushing like a 2.7.

...and if you say science GPA, are you referring to EVERY science/math class we have ever taken, or only the overall GPA of only the REQUIRED classes for our major.

Thanks

what he/she meant is that in order to be accepted your TRANSFER GPA- that is what all of the UCs look. Not your overall or your science. Not everyone majors in science. And it is not your overall because not every single course transfers from community college.

Oh, I see. So the best thing to do is just go through assist and see what transfers and what doesn't?

well i found it much easier to just look at my community colleges catalogue, it said UC/CSU next to courses, i just picked out all the UC ones and calculated my gpa that way.

You can look on assist to see if a highly selective major for UCD might have its own departmental gpa requirment. I know some at UCLA and UCSD do have requirments for the department. UCD might not have majors like this or they might. All this would mean is that if you meet all the minimum requirements you get accepted to the school but they do not gurantee acceptance into that major----- once again, i do not know if UCD has majors like this

I see. Thanks for the information. I have another question now though. I was reading the terms terms for transferring for the N.P.B. major...

Transfer students MUST complete courses comparable to the following UC Davis
courses with a GPA of at least 2.5 for each of the three groups of courses with
no grade less than a "C":

1. Mathematics 16A,B,C or 17A,B,C or 21A,B,C
2. Chemistry 2A,B,C

3. Biological Sciences 1A or 1B or 1C

...On the third portion, it says 1A or 1B or 1C--i have taken the 1A equivalent and the 1B equivalent, do i just assume they will take the one with the higher grade? I ask this because in one I got a C (less than 2.5) and in one I got a B (more than 2.5).

UMM? it answers your question right below that on assist.org

If only one course among the Biological Sciences is completed, the GPA must be a
"B" grade or better. It is strongly recommended that students complete the
entire series. If students complete two or three Biological Sciences courses,
they must earn an overall GPA of 2.5 or better among these courses, with no
grade less than "C".

Both courses will count, you must have 2.5 for each section.

If you go to community college, why not just sign a TAA ?

I guess in my panic I over-looked that.

So then I would be precluded from transferring?

5 Unit Class - C
4 Unit class - B

That would be lower than a 2.5. Does that mean I don't have a chance now?

gpa 2.44 for Section 3.

Take the third course and try to raise the GPA.

You are not precluded from transferring, you might not get accepted into that major.

It's only offered once a year. This is grand. I wanted to transfer in the spring of 08.

PM or wait for UCD admissions, or email the department directly and ask if they will preclude you from transferring.

You could transfer and then take the course at UCD .. raise that sections gpa and still declare that major if the department allows that.

I would email the department directly b/c this seems more of departmental issue than an admissions one.

You would get admitted, but your major department might not let you declare the major until you improve that sections grades/..email them

I PMed UCDAdmissions. Thank you for all the information, Malishka. :)

I wonder if they could somehow disregard the 5 unit class so that I only have 1 class done with a B--that would allow me to have those pre-reqs done...

"If only one course among the Biological Sciences is completed, the GPA must be a
"B" grade or better."

Do you think that would work?

No impossible. You can not omit a course that is on your transcript.

Well i would only be omitting it in order to retake it at Davis; but yeah, I suppose that wouldn't really work.

if UCD catches this, your transfer will be rescinded. Please don't hide anything.

I never said I was going to omit it. It's already on the application anyhow. I said I wonder if THEY would disregard it, in other words, not give me credit for it and just take me with the one class with a B.

The only way we will not include the passing grade or "C" in your application is to have your college remove the grade from your transcript. You would have to work with your college counselor to see if they have any process to do so. If the GPA in the Biological science courses is not at the required 2.5 or higher GPA then we will not be able to admit you in that major. With a transferable GPA higher than 2.8 admissions into a non-selective major would still be possible.

It wouldn't be too late for that now? I was thinking if they have already started reviewing applications, and they came across that, wouldn't I already be out by now? If I can somehow get the grade removed, should I just remove it when I go to update my transcript with my fall grades?

Thanks

I’m assuming this course was completed prior to fall 2007. You won’t have access to changes courses completed prior to fall 2007 on the application update form. The best you can do is to include the change in the additional comments of the update form. We won’t be reviewing applications until after we receive the update form so the evaluator should see this information. If you aren’t admitted contact the office, if it is because of this course and you have worked with your college to fix it you can file an appeal for consideration.
