As the potter "takes bricks away" to create an opening into the oven, an expanding view
of gleaming shapes rewards the artist for months of hard work.

The term "takes bricks away" is being asked about.

The writer would like to suggest the potters cautious
pace and sense of anticipation in opening the kiln.
Given that all the choices are true, which one best
accomplishes the writers goal?
F. NO CHANGE
G. removes bricks by hand
H. removes one brick at a time
J. experiences great anticipation and removes bricks

The correct answer is H. I understand how this creates a sense of cautious pace, but how does this create a sense of anticipation in opening the kiln? It seems that choice J should be correct as it creates a sense of anticipation and refers to a pace(although the level cautiousness is not referred to), whereas choice H only refers to the pace and not the sense of anticipation at all. What am I missing? Thanks.

Here’s one more. These two were on the only ones I got wrong on the english portion of the hand-out (75 questions). If this was a real test, would there be anyway I could dispute these questions, or have they researched the results of each question and they therefore do not believe they are flawed in anyway?

Here is the question:

Radioactive pools of toxic waste “are okay for others to live in”; even acid cannot kill them.

“Are okay for others to line in” is supposed replaced with one of the following choices.

F. NO CHANGE
G. are all right for others to live in;
H. are home to still others;
J. suit others to a tee;

The correct answer is H.

Clearly F or G cannot be right as “okay” and “all right” are so similar that a correct choice cannot be made by the two. So, it comes down to H and J. I do not see how H can be correct as the way “still” is used, it makes it seem as if the micro-sized species they are talking about maybe still(no movement), and this is not supported latter in the text. Plus, it seems a little wordy. Choice J may take a bit of a less professional tone for a topic about microbiology, but it seems to fit better than the other choices. Does anyone else have an opinion on this or can they tell me why H is the right choice? Also, has anyone ever disputed an answer choice to the makers of the ACT and had any success? Thanks.
