Hi, I've been lurking for a short while here. Interested in JHU, when I apply next year. I heard/have found that only a few years ago (late 80's-early 90's) that their acceptance rate was around 50%!! (Now it's ~30-35%) Was it really that much easier to get into JHU "back then"? Why do you think it has become that much harder to get into? Thanks in advance

Hmm...I've never heard that probably because I didn't know about JHU until 2 years ago. And no..it's still not very tough to get into as long as you present yourself well. Seriously..they accepted me. :/

I have a friend with a 1500+ SAT and 4.0+ gpa who's father went there who got turned down RD. Don't think of it as an easy school to get into. But dont let that discourage you, if you have close to the incoming freshmans average gpa, sat, and a good essay to boot, then your odds of getting in are high.

It's gotten a lot harder to get in because the quality of the undergraduate experience has increased tremendously, and with that the reputation.

ALL selective schools have gotten much harder. For example, back in the '80s, someone could walk up (drive up, more likely) to USC and apply and register on the first day of class. Now, they reject financial supporting alumni kids constantly.
