Okay, I've played basketball since 7th grade, but last year on varsity, a group of about 6 guys established themselves as the top guys, and got all the PT. I wans't happy riding the bench all year, but I stuck it out. This year, basketball off season started the first day of school. I've had some health problems lately (not major, but they're a nuisance when you're doing a lot of running and condition), and I really don't see myself being happy practicing for 8 months to play at the end of every 3 games when the team is way up or way down. Will having dropped basketball senior year look bad after having 2 years JV and 1 year varsity? I go to a private school thats not known for basketball, and the only reach schgool Im applying to is the University of texas, which looks at class rank/gpa and SAT scores much mor ethan at EC's. I'm pretty much commit6ted to not playing this year, just wondering what effect this will have on my application, if any.

You shouldn't base your decision on your college applications. Do whatever you truly want to do... so if you really hate basketball, then quit!

Yeah, that's really good advice, and its what I'm hearing a lot. And its not really quitting, I stuck it out during a miserable year last year. I'm just not starting back up because I don't like it anymore.

listen man, I know what your feeling.. i guess you can call me the well-rounded jock.. 4 sports, 4.1 GPA, student life council, 120+ CS hours... Im gunna be a sophomore next year.. and all three sports i played were on varsity teams... (yea i know why not JV? Im just to good :)) Anyways.. on football I was really good but I didnt start, because my heart wasnt with the game.. I had to prove to the coaches that I could hit, block and run as hard as a person could.. MAKE YOUR COACHES SEE THAT YOUR VALUABLE... you have to improve.. the same thing happened on rugby.. I was really cool and stuff with the coaches but I was really scared of gettin hit.. you gotta show the coaches u got heart.. afta that ur golden and youll play.... talk to the coaches if u want.. but dont sound desprate

I'm a senior. Basketball has no part of my future, why not just quit playing it now? I have some fond memories, but the chances of me breaking into the starting lineup of a team that started 4 juniors, and had the 6th and 7th men as juniors last year is minimal. Plus we have a new kid that looks like he can really play. So best case scenario I'm 8th man, and 8th man doesn't play. 7th doesn't really play either. Sorry if I'm just rnating. I'm happy with my decision though now.
