Question in the registration process:

Hi guys.

As a computer engineer, they only signed me up for 13 units after SOAR. I know you’re supposed to have at least like 15, correct? Following the flow chart, I signed up for IME 156, but it put me on the wait list for the lab part of it. Are the odds good of me getting the class if I’m #5 on the list, or should I consider looking at other classes?

Will I be in trouble if say I can’t get the lab portion of the class, or no? Also, since you can’t currently exceed more then 16 units at this time, what happens if I don’t get into IME 156? Is there like a deadline for having your schedule set in stone? I kinda wanted to do something like Economics, but it wouldn’t let me as it would put me over the 16 unit limit for now. I know you can get up to 22 after 8/24 though.

What I found weird was that, as a computer science major, they already provided a schedule containing 16 units. If they already gave 16 units, I guess that means I can’t do anything doing the initial freshmen registration period huh? How odd…

eadvise.calpoly.edu is your friend:
http://eadvise.calpoly.edu/policy/probation.php

“(Note: some entering freshmen are waived from taking degree applicable units during their first quarter due to their initial placement in major/support courses)”

I still swear that 15 unit policy is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. It is effectively banning minors and changes of major. But, that’s a different rant…

IME 156… I think that’s the one where you get to build a PSU. Sounds like fun… If I remember correctly, there’s an equivalent class where you get to build any electronics kit you want, but it doesn’t appear to be offered next quarter. Spot 5 of a 25 spot class? Possible, but not particularly likely. Especially since other freshmen could have been assigned to the class and have no intention of dropping. You might have some luck crashing other lab sections should you fail to get into the one you want though.

Oh, thank you very much bjorn.

I also emailed the advisor too, and he said it was okay, so I’ll breathe a sigh of relief for now, =).

do we have to pay registration fee or is it already included in the grand total for the fall quarter?

I don’t know if it’s of any indication, but I did indeed get enrolled into IME 156 after starting out #5 on the waitlist.

Just a heads up for people that are on the waitlist and want some positive feedback.
