Question...int'l kid

i posted this on another board as well but ppl had stopped accessing it by then, so i'm asking again. i'm a high school sophomore from india who just moved to the Middle East and i'd just like to know my chances of getting into yale. i plan to study film.

ACADEMICS

I have yet to take my CBSE Board exams, and i just switched a month ago from ICSE, so i can't predict how i'll fare although hitherto i have a high score graph
Due to severe medical conditions i was unable to take my 9th grade exams but bcoz i've always been a top scorer and high achiever, my new school admitted me anyway...and my old school converted my test transcript into percentage and mailed it to the cbse so that i could sit for the boards

SPORTS

I am a skater (ice and roller) and a cyclist but i've not really won any big tournaments altho i have participated

COMMUNITY

I intern in a local newspaper two nights a week
I'm involved in activities of the UNESCO and Amnesty Int'l

I have a few questions

Will my freshman year weigh against me? the fact that i've always been a good student, have decent ECs ...does it outweigh the debacle in 9th grade. i have legitimate reasons and i don't want to lie or hide this fact when i apply.

I'd like to know whether the fact that the Indian curriculum doesn't exactly satisfy the requirements of Ivy League due to its tough structure, will that go against me? As of now, in the 10th grade i'm studying science, english, math, social science (Indian and world history, geography and economics combined) and hindi and there's no tough/easy thingummy...everyone studies the same thing. in the 11th and 12th i plan to take physics, chemistry, biology, math and english.

Also, since i can't pay the tuition and since there are probably hundreds of applicants like myself from all over the world, what chance do i have of getting in?

thanx in advance

umm...i'm kinda desperate...sorry...

No, 9th grade grades aren't as heavily considered as 10th and 11th. And if it was a legimitimate medical concern, I don't think it could be considered very heavily against you.

As long as you're making the most of what is available in your school (in terms of the curriculum), it's fine. Don't worry too much if your school doesn't have honors or APs. I also see that you're doing independent study at a university, so that should make up for the curriculum at your school.

I'm not sure about the answer to your third question. I do know that full financial aid is met for international students as well as domestic students. So being an int'l applicant to Yale is probably not as bad as being one to a school that doesn't have financial aid for international students and therefore has to find international students who can pay the full price.

As for your chances of getting in, I really can't say. You have a high SAT score, but why in the world did you put it under the extracurricular section? You also listed academic awards in this section. Your list is very confusing, and I don't get a clear sense of anything. I honestly think that you would get more responses from people if you wrote more concisely.

where in the Middle East have you moved to?
