question, is cornell easy/hard to get in

first... should i have a science teacher write me a rec if i plan on majoring in biology?

i have good credentials... grades, ec's, summer activities, interview, etc... my sat's are shaky cuz english isnt my first language and stuff. cornell is kind of my safetyish/reach school. but it seems like a great applicant from my school didnt get in cornell. how hard it is to get in from an honest perspective?

How exactly is cornell a safety and a reach?

They reject plenty of qualified applicants every year...it's considered the easiest to get in in the Ivy League but that's kind of contradictory. It's a safety for absolutely no one.

post your stats, then we'll see.

i meant match not reach...

Umm Yeah, in my interview, I went through about my weak test taking skills and she said they will def look beyond them. Other than that...

i was going to comment on match vs. reach but i see that's been corrected. cornell rejects thousands of people every year. you're qualified, but of course cornell is hard to get in to. i guess i'm being a little bit cranky but i'm a little insulted that you have doubts about whether admission will be difficult or not. you're qualified. but selective schools are always hard.

You have a good chance, but it is not a lock. The SAT's could be higher and the EC's are good, but they are pretty much only academic. I think you would be a good candidate though.

malacaster, my man, i applied

hope to see u there at orientation lol

Not to sound like an ass, but what makes you think that Cornell is not a reach for you?

I mean... Cornell is a match for very few people (especially in the RD round)

no it is, trust me

i was just being optomistic

I thought macalester was a girl?

Note to snowgirl: Indian people are hardly a minority at Cornell, so dont try to ride that to the bank as you seem to be implying you will. Scores seem kinda low. EC's...interesting. "Unique" and "creative" essays always scare me. No one is a shoe-in at cornell.

First post in 3 months. And I sound like an *******. Great.

constructive advice... of course i know its not easy.
i actually didnt try to emphasize the indian-ness or bengali-ness... for some reason i was accepted into programs for URM's.
is anyone a shoe-in at cornell??

Some people are sho*o*-ins...those would be either really rich people who would donate to Cornell or people who come from significant families (Meinig, for example...).

yes yes

how does the whole admissions process work? does ne1 know?

With your SAT score there's no way Cornell is a safety/match school. It's a safety for no one except maybe Native American legacies with 2400 SATs and great essays.

That said, if you are a URM woman applying for engineering (saw the SWE award so this is an assumption), you have a great shot and are highly qualified in every area except the test scores.

lol if anything being indian( part of asian group) is minus points for you. its not a myth that asians students are set to higher standards. ESL don't mean much depeding on how long you have lived here. but if your scores weren't dangerously low i would would say your a strong candidate.

"cornell is kind of my safetyish/reach school."

Unless you're joking, you're completely dillusional and will be thoroughly disappointed when your other "match" schools reject you. You could get in, but 570 in CR is pretty low. You say English isn't your first language, but I'd imagine that can't pose much of a problem, considering you claim to speak 4 different languages. Also, what do you mean by English not being your first language? Did you learn English a few years ago or did you learn it when you were 4 years old? Slight difference (I just realized that the person above me said the same thing, but whatever). I think you've underestimated how difficult it is to get into Cornell and have come off as pretty arrogant in the process. It is possible that you will be accepted to Cornell, if your recommendations and essays are good, but it's definitely a reach.

^^^ seconded. not a match. Definitely nowhere near a safety. But within reach. SATs are wayy below average for cornell.

Heh, I spelt delusional really wrong, delirium does funny things.
