Question of curiosity of 10% rule in Tx

I have a quick question for any parents or students regarding to texas's 10% automatic admission.

Fortunately, i was in the top 10% and was accepted to UT without a question. I know you cannot get into the major of your choosing with that but, my question is...

i know there is lot of post about the auto admission 10%, but does anyone know who got into UT or any other big school in texas that weren't in top 10%?

all my friends who were very close (11%) didn't get in and many other friends didn't get in as well. I asked a neighboring school friends and response were the same. I'm sure there are some who got in that weren't in top 10% but ....anybody here know that somebody?
thank you

My friend got into UT and she wasnt in the top 10%. its just harder if you arnt.

I got in the Summer Program, I was like top 20%

I know plenty of kids who did not get in top 10%, I got into Business without a rank (private school, does not rank). 82% of people who applied were admitted to UT Austin from my school. ><. However 50% of those admitted had very strong stats and would probably have been admitted anyways (4.0+ uw gpa, 1400+ m/v SAT). I think everyone else got offered summer.

But my neighbor (and good friend) got into engineering from public school (non-competitive) outside of 10% and I know plenty of people who also got in outside of 10%. But most people I know go to the two best and most competitive high schools here in Austin, and they usually are big UT feeder schools. I dont know many people coming from non-ut feeder schools outside of top 10% who got in, but thats just me. I believe that most outside of top 10% admissions are offered summer program.

The other schools in Texas (A&M being the main one) usually offer plenty of non top 10% admissions. Admissions to the other campuses of UT, Texas State, and other schools is extremely easy. A lot of these schools accept >80% of all applicants. (UTSA=99% last time i read)

is it Westlake?

yeah, westlake and westwood.
