question of language placement test

so the test has to be the language you took in high school?
i took latin in 9th and 10th grade but ive basically forgotten everything lol.
i want to take spanish instead cause it will be of more use but i will still have to take the latin exam?
im going to fail it lol. what should i do

Take the latin exam. You’ll probably place into 101. Then, sign up for spanish 101 when you go to register for classes. Simple as that.

to prevent people from intentionally bombing the language exam in order to place into a 101 level class for easy A’s, carolina’s outsmarted you tricky freshman. if youve taken up to the second level of latin but place into latin 101 AND choose to take latin at UNC, you’ll have to take up to latin 102 and then some more. if you take the exam, bomb it, and then take spanish 101, you’ll only be required to take two levels of it for graduation requirements.

so really, if you plan on taking spanish anyway, it doesnt matter.
