<p>Does it help or hinder me to put middle eastern (which I am) in my common app, or should I just leave the race area blank? Obviously it helps to be african american or hispanic, and can kind of hinder you to be asian. If I marked off middle eastern, would it help me? Would it not?</p>
<p>It would do nothing. Middle Eastern is counted as white in admissions basically.</p>

<p>It might help you. When colleges look for diversity they look within the race as well. You might be favored over a regular European ancestry American white.</p>
