So I’m on the page where the first college I chose on the FAFSA is on the list. It gives me a table with the categories Term (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) College Name (with my first choice I put on FAFSA), College Code and Level of study.
The instructions say “If you do not plan to attend any college in a term listed below, or will not attend a New York college, check the box next to the term and click on the Delete button.”
For the summer and winter terms, there’s no college name next to it, which I think is correct. But then next to the Fall and Spring term, the first choice college is next to it. I’m going to college in the Fall term (hopefully to my first choice) but my question is, do I have to “delete” the college in the row that’s for the Spring term? Or do I just leave it there? I’m not entering spring term, but do I just leave it un-deleted since I’ll still be attending the college after the fall term?
I’m really confused. Hopefully my explanation wasn’t, though…
Dont stress over it. TAP list the first NYS school on the FAFSA. once you know where you are going, you can go back and make the changes that align with your school schedule
I’m not at all familiar with TAP or the application but from what you’ve posted, wouldn’t the spring term it’s referring to be the spring of 2016 when you will be in college?
If OP has filled out the 2015-16 TAP application, yes, it would be for spring 2016
OP, which application did you fill out? If you filed TAP directly from filing the FAFSA, it will take you to the 2015-2016 application. However, if you did not apply directly when you filed the FAFSA, HESC and www.tapweb.org have been having problems with their website and a couple of students told me that they could not access the 2015-2016 for, only the 2014/2015 application. The site is currently down.
Make sure that you are applying for the correct school year
@sybbie719 I made sure it said 2015-2016. @annoyingdad’s answer kind of confused me now…
I provided a screenshot (with covered college name and college code since I don’t feel comfortable revealing it) to what I was talking about:

Hopefully that might clear some things up. I’m still unsure on whether or not I should leave the “spring” term there or just delete it…
Edit: well apparently I can’t seem to post links to websites that host pictures. That’s a bit unfortunate since I think the picture might have been helpful in this situation…

^ just remove the three consecutive asterisks. Everything else together is just one website. (Oh boy I hope this is allowed.)
Financial aid applications are for one academic year of 2 semesters, not for one semester. The 2015-2016 academic year consists of the fall 2015 semester and the spring 2016 semester. Are you going to drop out after attending college for one semester next fall or do you plan to continue in college for the spring 2016 semester?
@annoyingdad I do plan on staying in that college for the whole year, including the spring 2016 semester, so I guess from that I can say I won’t be deleting anything from the list. Thanks for the help.
