QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Can you LEARN the SAT?

whatever .

"murkywater, I want to say something, but I'm afraid you'll instantaneously reprimand me for it. Soooooo, I'm decidin, heads or tails, oh goody, it was tails, I can keep my mouth shut."

Say it if you wish. If it's something stupid, I will call you out for it and embarrass you. However, if it's even remotely intelligent, I will consider it as I have considered your other posts.

murkywater, actually thats been quoted from colleges such as harvard and stanford when they defend SAT testing. I'll try to find the link for you, but you can probably just google it and find it yourself.

-and you could try not sounding so conceited when you talk, they're ideas have just as much weight as yours.

yes, but you failed to cite those sources, so murkywater had no reason to assume those ideas had any bearing whatsoever.

and as to my own opinion -- yes, the SAT can be learned, no, we should not do away with them precisely because of that.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2002-08-27-sat-cover_x.htm

This is somewhat helpful. The latter half of the article (from the subheading "A threat to drop the test" on) is more useful for our purposes. Accordingly, the warmth amongst colleges for the exam is too mixed to be making any conclusions.

The SAT should stay because it is really the only factor that can determine whether the grades that students get is inflated or not.

BTW, the SAT is going to stick around until we (the current CCers) are over 30 years old... So we don't need to worry about that

Tyler, why don't you watch what YOU say?

"-and you could try not sounding so conceited when you talk, they're ideas have just as much weight as yours."

I'm not sounding conceited. nyjunior expresses hesitancy in saying what he wanted to say and knew that he would be reprimanded, leading me to believe what he had to say was stupid. A lot of his posts on this thread are, in fact, stupid. So please don't tell me that I am conceited. Maybe some people on this thread have nothing valuable to say, and I'm just calling them out on it.

wow, this thread is turning a little too disputatious (i think I spelled that wrong...). I guess that was expected:)

And if you really hate the test, murkywater, you can either take the ACT, and if you hate that too, there are still some colleges that do not require any entrance exam. But, I do agree with naidu (never thought I would say that), SATs do determine whether grades are inflated. Because even if the SAT doesn't test natural ability at all, it does test devotion and perseverance to break through all the barriers blocking the way of getting a good score. And these same qualities are very much needed in obtaining good grades in high school, good marks in college, and doing your best work in your chose profession later on.

Oh my gosh, I just read what murkywater said just now, and it was very hurtful.

I don't say a lot of stupid things, I, well, I, just,...hmm...okay, so I do say a lot of stupid things! But I also say a lot of smart things! And in the end, my net stupidity is equal to my net intelligence at 0.

YEAH, now what?!

atleast this thread is not becoming racist, like a recent chances thread did...

Hey, I see you rolling your eyes! Was that really stupid?

And you see, I DO compliment you (sometimes).

Wow, I actually did ! I don't see that as a compliment, I see it as an acknowledgement of my obvious greatness

HEY! You just edited your other post, and now people will think I'm stupid with my follow-up post. You're a wily coyote.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....

Okay now that was stupid (of me)...

Then why do you do stupid things?

hehe

for fun...

Just to prove that anything anyone says cannot be considered stupid because it is the opinion of the person. There is no need to call them stupid if you don't agree with them -> this is not against anybody so don't tear me apart!

The last post I made, now that was stupid (which something that I am a lot)!

=] enjoy.

hahahahahahaha
