Question of transferring to A&M

I have 20 hr that will transfer to A&M and at a 4.0 gpa. I want to transfer in the fall of 2011, so I should hopefully have close to 60 hr and hopefully still 4.0, my question is will that alone be enough to get in to A&M and if it is will it be enough for the college of engineering. I'm 34 and dropped out of high school to go in to the Navy. I was a bad student then but have a different mid set now. I have read some post on here that say the were not admitted and had close to a 4.0

I don’t know all of the exact specifications for transfers but you have enough hours and the highest GPA you can, this will help.

On the site it says “and the most courses completed in the Degree Track for the major designated on the application.”

So it would probably help if a lot of your hours covered the lower level courses that can transfer from other colleges. These can be found at catalogs.tamu.edu and then go to dwight school of engineering and choose your major to see all of the classes.

Basically they are English 104 (English Comp I), Two political sciences 206, 207 (American/State Govts), History 105 and 106 or other courses that can count for it, English Comp II can take the place of technical writing, and maybe your school even has the basic physics/calc that can transfer over.

Check out [Texas Common Course Numbering System On-Line Matrix](http://www.tccns.org/tccns/default.asp?DB=2008&mode=Compare) to see what transfers.

If you have a decent amount of classes that are along your degree track I would think you’d definitely be in.

My son just transferred and found that what matters more is your GPR - not your GPA. [Registrar: Calculate GPR](http://admissions.tamu.edu/Registrar/General/CalcGPR.aspx) Less than a 2.0 GPR and you are considered academically deficient.

is there a difference in GPR & GPA?

^ There is no difference.

OP - You have a great shot at Engineering. You need to have completed the Degree tract for that specific engineering major that you want as TXAggie92 already stated. Good luck, you’re a unique and nontraditional student.

that is what I thought - no difference

Ok thanks guy’s, just the grades then huh?

If those 20 hours that are transferable to A&M fit along your degree program then probably so.

yes I got the degree plan for Mechanical engineering last year. If I choose to go in to Petroleum field instead, the pans are close on the basic stuff. so should be ok on that hopefully
