I heard that sometimes, if Phillips Academy Andover cannot offer you a spot for the grade you are applying o, they may offer you a spot to repeat a grade, even if you didn’t indicate it on your profile. To what extent is this true? I am asking because I am applying to 11th grade but if offered a spot to repeat 10th, I would take it in a heartbeat.
That conversation, if appropriate, would generally have come up in the interview. I have never heard of that offer being suggested in March.
This is not the case with pretty much any school. If you would have taken a 10th grade spot, did you indicate it anywhere on your app? Good luck on m10!
no, I didn’t. I may have just been misinformed. Thank you, and good luck to you too!
Good luck to you @ThomasBr! I hope you get accepted, as I am also hoping to be accepted. For whatever comes comes, I suppose Good luck to the both of us! [-O<
I’m in the position as you, so I called Terri Layton, the 11th grade application coordinator, and asked her if I could switch my app to repeat 10th-grader just to be sure. She said that would be okay. I figure that more time at Andover is good anyway.
Some of my friends have gotten into schools that way, but it was a little different. A friend for 9th grade in 2017-2018 year, but got in for 9th grade for 2018-2019. And that was at Groton. Something similar happened to my friend at Middlesex.
@bumblebee1212 - Did your friends find that out in their acceptance letter, i.e. they were accepted but for the following year as a repeat? Or did they discuss it in advance?
I’m not sure. My friend was against the idea so I assume that it was in her letter.
