During junior year, my schedule was:

Pre-Calc
H Anatomy
AP Lang
AP USH
Tennis
Spanish III

I chose to take Spanish even though it would lower my gpa (some kids who wanted a gpa bump chose to take an easy AP and defer spanish for their senior year instead). I'm currently taking AP Spanish while they're taking Spanish III.

As for Tennis, this really brought my gpa down because compared to other kids; I didn't want to drop it for gpa's sake.

Also, because I thought my schedule was weak, I decided to get the National AP scholar award by taking 7 AP tests and passing all of them. My reason for doing this was I saw people taking 5 AP's compared to my 2.

Question, will colleges see these things or are they gonna get the impression that I'm lazy? I'm scared that because I didn't "game" my junior year, it'll make me look bad compared to other students

lol my title totally doesn’t relate, sorry for that

nothing to do with APs lol. But what is your current GPA, and how much did it drop from you soph year?

It didn’t drop lol, I got a 4.16 sophomore year and 4.50 junior year

What I’m concerned with is my Junior year curriculum.

Because I had Tennis and Spanish 3, I couldn’t be one of those kids who took four AP’s (they did this by not having a sport and not taking spanish 3 till senior year), and I couldn’t get a first period like my peers because of transportation issues. And for math, I just suck at that so I wasn’t in honors (even though I’m taking AP Calc BC right now)

Spanish III won’t hurt your schedule rigor, trust me. Just how low is your rank? And what scores did you get on these self-studied ap’s?

4’s and 5’s on all of them (only two people in my class got national ap scholar), and because I self-studied a couple does that put me on equal footing?

^I don’t know too much but it definitely doesn’t put you on equal or superior footing. But it is better than doing nothing about your situation. I suggest explaining your situation in a more humble manner in the additional info sections of your applications.

^ Well I took two AP classes during junior year vs. a peer who took five, but I self studied 5 AP’s and passed all of them. So basically I did two more AP classes than them + I had sports and spanish III while they did not. And I think the national ap scholar award communicates that.

I don’t want to be superior to them, just trying to make myself not look lazy to adcoms

You will definitely be hurting from a lack of strength of schedule. Just self-studying for an AP test does not equate to having spent an entire year in the class and then taking the test.
