Hello, I have a question regarding community college and the grade of an "incomplete." I received this grade while I was a sophmore in highschool (summer school) as I didn't exactly excel in this subject. The class was Elementary Chinese and at first I didn't really care as I wouldn't think I would be attending a JC. However, with the admissions decisions out and my top choice not accepting me, I prefer to go to a JC and then transfer.

I am somewhat worried that this grade with affect my status to the UC's and private colleges, and I was lucky enough to get this grade instead of an "F," so re-taking would be a last resort. Can anyone tell me if this will drastically affect my future, and if so, should I go to another JC system? Thanks
-Nathan

It doesnt matter if you go to another JC system you still have to send that transcript.

its really odd that you recieved a grade of incomplete, this is given under the idea that you will finish this course, meaning there is something you didnt do that you had to do to recieve an actaul grade.

I would contact the school and see if you can get an actual grade or a W.

And either way if your aiming for UCs going to CC and having this grade is not going to do you any harm. However i would contact the school because the grade is uncommon .

Alright, thanks. Yet, wouldn't a W look even worse than an incomplete? Or worse yet, if I were to get an F or D. This situation is pretty worrisome, so sorry if these questions are repetitive.

The Incomplete Grade is given to students who were unable to finish the course due to reasons beyond their control. W's look way way waaaaaaaay worse than Incomplete's.

Sometimes an Incomplete shouldn't even matter...I mean what if a student was injured in a car crash, etc. I doubt admissions would see a car crash as a reason to ding a student.

If you have a good gpa, and if the class is not uc transferable, make sure to mention it on your application, or if u were accepted already, notify the school. But regardless, its not THAT big of a deal. You should be fine.

Thanks for all your help! I'll actually be just starting my first year at CC so I suppose I would just mention it in my application when I apply again. Thanks again!

I think incomplete grades are supposed to turn into a real grade when you complete the course another time. If I grades aren't made up, they'll convert to their original grade.

Well, after you said that Walnut, I looked at the grade again, and since this class was taken almost 3 years ago...it is a No Credit. I have a feeling this is even worse... Now what are my chances?
