Question on Dorms Contract cancellation

<p>Hi,
I am an incoming freshmen into UCR, and I submitted an application exactly on the deadline 11:55 PM on May 10 . Therefore, I was not able to submit a first payment on time and they said they couldn't guarantee me any housing. So I just went and looked for an off campus apartment and got one with two of my friends.
Late in august the university sent me stuff about dorms, and I was like noway, you said you wouldn't give me anything coz i missed the deadline, but apparently they were assigning me in! So I just called and asked about what I can do and they told me I can cancel my contract online. And that is exactly what I did on the 27th of August.
Today I received a phone call from someone saying: "hi, UCR sent me your number and stuff coz we're gonna be romies".... um like WHAAAT?!?!?!?</p>

<p>This is what my cancellation request submission said:</p>

<p>"Your Request to Cancel Your Residence Hall Contract Has Been Received.
You may check back here to review the status of your Contract Cancellation Request at any time. However, you will be unable to further edit your Residence Hall Contract on file.
Please remember that your Residence Hall Contract is an agreement for the entire academic year and cancelling your contract will result in financial liabilities, which are further outlined in Step 6: Contract Terms & Conditions. If all required supplementary documentation has been submitted, your Contract Cancellation Request should be processed within two weeks. If additional documentation must be requested, the decision timeframe will need to be extended."</p>

<p>And This is what "Step 6: Contract Terms & Conditions" says:</p>

<p>"Requests to cancel MUST be accompanied by submission of an online Contract Cancellation Request. All Contract Cancellation Requests submitted after the effective date of the contract will be assessed a $75 processing fee unless specifically noted. Approval should not be assumed. If approved, Resident will be assessed cancellation charges as follows, which the Resident agrees are liquidated damages.</p>

<p>I wanna know what I can do to cancel this dorm thing, I really can't afford it! Please help me! Also please tell me based on the cancellation request and the contract what would I be paying? </p>

<p>Please help me, Thanks</p>

<p>Did u get a response? I am trying to figure this out too…I am also trying to cancel this contract since it’s too expensive.</p>

<p>You’ll have a better chance at getting any charges waived if you go and speak with them in person. The housing office is located near Bannockburn.</p>
