Question on Georgetown Travel

I plan on flying from northeast Ohio (by Cleveland) to visit Georgetown. I'm not familiar with the area at all. What is the closest airport for visiting Georgetown? Reagan-National or Dulles-International?

Also, there are ridiculously cheap flights into Maryland, but is that way too far away?

I stayed in College Park, MD when I visited. It wasn't to far, but transportation could be a hassle. We were close enough to a commuter Metro station that we didn't really need a car, but flying directly to DC seems like it would be much easier.

I would prefer staying in Maryland because flights to Baltimore are more than $100 cheaper than flights right into DC. I just don't know how long or inconvenient it would be to go into the District.

I haven't gone from BWI to GTown, but I've arrived at both DCA and IAD.

From both airports, your goal will be to get to the Rosslyn metro stop so you can take the bus to the Georgetown area.

1) From IAD, there is a bus (every hour or so, or less), that goes to Rosslyn. It costs three dollars, and the ride-time is a little less than an hour.

2) From DCA, the metro goes straight to the Rosslyn metro stop. The ride-time is around twenty minutes, and there is a train about every 10-15 minutes max.

From the Rosslyn stop, there are two busses, the GUTs bus and the Georgetown connection, that will take you to the Georgetown area. The former takes you to the heart of campus, but you need to be a student to take it. The latter takes you to the periphery of the campus, and it costs – I think – one dollar.

Yea, Reagan is BY FAR the most convient of the airports in terms of getting to gtown. Just hop on the metro.

BWI also works, but it's a pain to get back to Georgetown.

BWI is cheaper but you have to factor in travel cost to get to Georgetown. Its about 45 minutes outside of DC, which is about a 60-75 dollar cab ride. If you take the super shuttle, it's 31 dollars plus tip each way, so it's comes out to about 62. Plus it takes about a 1-2 hours to get from BWI to georgetown. You could also take the bus, to the train, to the union station metro, to the rosslyn metro stop, to the G-town bus, which will also get you to G-town from BWI, but I did that by myself as a prospective student and it wasn't one of my favorite memories. DCA would be the most convient by far. The metro will take you straight to the Rosslyn metro and you can catch the university shuttle. A cab costs about 15 dollars. Dulles is further away, but I think there's a shuttle that will take you to the metro, which will get you to georgetown. If you go this route, this will come out to be about 5 dollars and about an 1 hour worth of travel time. A cab from Dulles costs a little bit less than BWI but not by much. Hope this helps. Good luck and safe travels.

Flying into DCA as they mentioned would be ideal, but if you do decide to go into BWI, you can take the MARC into union station then the metro to rosslyn, it isn't that expensive just takes a little extra time.
