Question on getting in Kelley

I’m senior in Massachusetts.

I think most of other things meets criteria but i have two questions

the website says that freshman with SAT score greater than 1270 and GPA with 3.6 / 4.0 will automatically be admitted to the Kelley school.

My Sats score is 800 for Math and 480 for Critical reading, is it ok?

I want to know how IU-B calculates GPA,

Pls help me :)))

they use whatever GPA your school gives them, including weighted

well, my school only uses weighted GPA that is not out of 4.0. for example, i have 4.11 GPA with few B’s and valedictorian has like 5.1 GPA because he took many APs.

SATs: 800 Math, 480 CR, 550 Writing. (yea, i need to take this again, and im getting about 550~600 on CR, and 600~650 on Writing on diagnostics)

SATII: Math 2c: 800

AP Tests
Calculus BC / AB subscore 5/5
Computer Science AB Plan on Taking
Latin: Vergil Plan on Taking

The Extras

School Math Team (9,10,11,12) 11 = co-captain 12= captain
Purple comet math team (11, 12) 11, 12= captain
Western MA state math team (=ARML) (10, 11, 12)
Track and Field (9,10,11,12)
Indoor Track (10, 11, 12)
AMC (9,10,11,12)
AIME (9, 11,12)

10th grade : Captain’s recognition(Indoor Track), some math team stuff, National Latin exam (silver)
11th grade : Captain’s recognition (Indoor track), some math team stuff, National Latin exam (bronze)
… still going on.

P.S. I took ESL on freshman year, b/c i came America from korea in my freshman year, and that’s why my class rank isn’t that high. In senior year, i will be taking Honors English.

do you think i ll have chance?

if your gpa is out of 5, then its too low for them to admit you as a direct admit, but you can try to petition, see the website for petition details

Your gpa could be over 4.0 and your school could still be using a four-point scale. A 5.1 weighted gpa on a four-point scale for someone taking lots of AP’s and getting A’s may be possible.

Ask your guidance counselor what scale your school uses. It may be a four-point scale, in which case you would be in at Kelley as a direct admit. If it is some other scale, the IU Admissions Office has formulas for converting it to a four-point scale. Also, your HS transcript; it probably states whether they use a four-point scale. The IU Admissions Office reads the fine print on the HS transcript to see if gpa’s need to be converted. Then the converted score is passed on to Kelley for use in determining direct admit status, scholarships, etc.

Does it seem it would be lower than 3.6? again, thnx for the help :))

Your school should put down that you are 3.69 unweighted and 4.06 weighted.

The ESL (English as a second language) and the PE and Health courses don’t count in computing an academic GPA, but the rest is great–and you took 6 year-long honors classes already and are taking another 5 this year.

You will have no problem at all in getting direct admit to Kelley if they don’t mind the 480 CR score. And since their website says a 1270 SAT (CR+M) is what you need, I would think that your 1280 SAT (480CR + 800M) should do the trick. I’d retake the SAT and try to move that CR score over 500 just to be sure, though.

Your ECs are excellent for Indiana University admissions.

Good luck.

P.S. I had two 800 Math scores myself, and also was on the track and field team, and was an undergraduate business major also–and then went on to do my MBA at UCLA–so maybe you’ll do the same.

omg Calcruzer, thnx a lot :)) yep im retaking the SATs october.
MBA at UCLA is great! I’ll try hard to follow your steps  again, thnx :)
