My brother’s dream is Stanford or UCLA or UC Berkely or Harvard. He started 1st semester with a 3.4 with one C in his report card. Obviously this is not high. Next semester, he achieved a 4.2. SO far in his sophmore year, he has a 4.8 GPA. Overall, his GPA calculate around 4.1 or 4.2. Because of his GPA in 1st semster freshman, he is ranked in the 2nd decile. Has he ruined his chances for harvard or the colleges i have listed. Oh yea…his EC’s are amazing

bumperooooooo

i dont know much about those schools (sorry) but it doesnt seem that bad. i know many schools dont care much for freshman grades. i'd say he has an okay chance if the Ecs are amazing and if the essays, recs, and tests scores will be good. he needs safety schools, though.

plus i am not very familiar with weighted gpas, as my school does them unweighted

well his rank was severely affected by his 1st semester grades. his unweighted however so far is 3.6 or 7

its great that he and you are thinking about college this soon, but he has plenty of time to work his butt off and get a higher GPA and rank. also, he has plenty of time to find other schools that he will like and have a better chance of getting in.

So...I shouldnt really worry about him because of his upward trend right...whew whata relief. I talked to my counselor and my counselor said that my brother shouldnt worry cuz UC's and Stanford dont really look at Freshman year
