Question on interviews?

D. is a junior and got a letter from USC regarding optional interviews this December. She called to schedule an appt. and was told that it was for seniors only.
I was wondering if the counselor could have been incorrect with that information..or are most interviews for seniors only?

It does vary by school. S did some interviews as a jr. Rice had a policy of interviews ONLY after part 1 of the app had been submitted and it didn't become available til June after jr. year. At some places, interviews are not allowed (Stanford). That said, since your junior received a letter, if she really wants to interview, I would double check website re interview arrangements and try again w Admissions Office in case she got wrong information.

USC clearly says that it only conducting interviews for Fall 2006 candidates on its website. http://www.usc.edu/schools/college/admission/visiting/interviews.html
If your daughter took the PSAT last year, they may have her tagged as a senior, not a junior. Same thing if she contacted them for information while she was a sophomore. That's why she got the letter.

If you've already made plans to visit this year, I guess you could push for an interview. But, keep several things in mind: (1) USC does offer off campus interviews across the country so she could very well interview next year as a senior even if you can't revisit and (2) it may be better for her to interview as a senior --- she'll be "Fresher" in admissions mind, she'll have more data points to talk about, she'll also have test scores, class rank, and 3 year GPA in hand which will give her a better idea of whether USC is within the realm of possiblity before pushing for an interview. I think I'd at least wait until the spring when the admissions office's attention has turned from this year's applicants to next years. (My daughter did not do any interviews until the spring of her junior year)

Thanks Carolyn,
We just didnt want to miss out if she should be interviewing.
