I'm considering going back to the UK, I had previously studied there for awhile but personal and some financial difficulties lead to me leaving my course early.

Anyway, I'd love to go back but I'm struggling with this new visa rule. How am I supposed to show proof of funds if I'm going to pay for tuition and living expenses with a student loan? I won't be able to have the money until I actually enroll. Is having to pay this way going to completely screw me out of going to the UK?

You can request a letter from whoever you are getting the loan from, and that will count as evidence of funds. There are specifications on what exactly needs to go in the letter, however.

Here is what the UKBA says:

The financial institution must be regulated by either the Financial Services Authority or, in the case of overseas accounts, the home regulator (that is, the official regulator for the country that the institution is in and where the money is held).

Your letter from the financial institution should show:

* your name, or the name of the child’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if applicable in the case of a child student;
- the date of the letter;
- the financial institution’s name and logo; and
- the money (or funds) available as a loan.
