Question on Pass/Fail classes

Hello aspiring scholars...

Quick question on Pass/Fail classes for UC transfers. I don't have any at the moment (aside from AP credit, which I think is a bit different) however I'm thinking of taking one of my breadth req history classes for a P/NP. Is it looked down upon even if it has nothing to do with my major? And I checked assist for UCLA, UCB, etc... but it says nothing about the max number of courses that can be taken for P/NP.

On a side note, Haas only allows for a max of 3 to full fill breadth req's. I'm assuming other UC's would be something like that. Thanks

If it's not lower-division prep work for your major, then 1, maybe 2, should be fine. Beyond this, you're beginning to draw attention to the "P's" on your transcript.

grey, not at all! I took a lot of P/NP classes and UCLA didn't shred my application. My former CCC student president transferred to Cal and she wrote a small article in our weekly college newspaper encouraging more people to take advantage of P/NP grades, since they take plenty of pressure off, allowing for better grades in hard/major classes.

It's a different story if your aim is graduate/professional school, though.

UC transfer admission's a very numbers-oriented game. If you got the GPA and the prereqs, you're pretty much in.

If possible usually try to take a class for the letter grade but one or two P/np will not hurt your chances. If you are looking into grad school some competitive schools look at P/np as a C especially law schools. Also keep in mind that you might want to take some classes at a UC as p/np.
