Hi,

How much do patents help in the admission process? Is it regarded as a regular EC? OR does it have a much higher weight on it? Thanks.

Hi,

How much do patents help in the admission process? Is it regarded as a regular EC? OR does it have a much higher weight on it? Thanks.

Is the patent for something that is related to your projected major?

Yes, it is

Probably depends on how much effort you put into it (e.g., is this your project or a project you cleaned lab equipment for yet somehow managed to get named in) and what you’ve done with it.

In general, though, I assume it would stand out. At the very least, it’s atypical.

It is an honor, just like any other. Well, not like any other, since very few people have one. If you do report it, your name better be some where, or you are going to have a lot of 'splain’n to do.

Even if it is for an obscure, useless, product, at least it shows you had enough creativity to get one, and the persistence to go through the process.

Ok, thanks guys!

It is very simple to verify. Go to uspto.gov and click on patents and then patent assignment database. You want to select Assignor Name and type in last name to see if you are there.
