Question on Penn's Supplemental Essay

I am applying ED to the Huntsman Program. Therefore, I plan on discussing the Huntsman Program in my essay in terms of what academic program I see myself exploring at Penn. However, if Huntsman rejects me ED and Penn reconsiders me for Wharton or CAS RD, would the fact that I talked about the Huntsman Program vs. Wharton or CAS in my essay hurt my RD chances? Thanks!

Well it does make you seem pompous and arrogant. This is a plus for Wharton ;P

Any other replies?

Also, Penn says the essay should be around 1 page or 250 words, except 250 words is not nearly 1 page long. I have had friends who’ve been accepted who wrote over 500 words for this essay, but still 1 page. I’m guessing I should just confine to this new 250 words requirement?

I believe 250 words is one paged double spaced, but don’t quote me on that.

well huntsman is extremely competitive, so I would talk about your interest in that program as much as possible. just make sure you convey an interest in Wharton as well.

kubiler72: I spoke to the admissions officer and they told me that it shouldn’t exceed anymore than one page. So it’s ok if you go over the 250 words just don’t go over one page. Also I think for the supplement essay why don’t you just write about all of them. CAS, Wharton, and the Huntsman program, so no matter if you were get rejected(which I hope not) from Huntsman you’ll still have back up info about Wharton and CAS :D

The deal with that is I don’t want to talk only about academics for the entire essay. I want to also discuss other aspects of Penn.

isnt there also a huntsman specific essay?

Yes, but that’s separate from the required Penn community essay.

Sorry to revive this, but once again, is it fine if I talk about the Huntsman Program versus Wharton or CAS in my supplement essay if I get rejected from Huntsman ED and considered for CAS or Wharton RD?

well i guess you could talk about huntsman in the huntsman specific essay and talk about wharton or cas in the general supplement essay.

Except the Huntsman specific essay is not really about the Huntsman Program…it’s more about discussing an issue that’s important to you.
