Hello all,
Was just curious about how the drug testing procedure works for oil companies like chevron/bp/shell/exxon, but for chevron in particular, how far back do they go for these tests, and what kind of tests do they perform? if its a hair test do they take hair from the head or they take it from all over? if anyones had an engineering internship with chevron and has undergone a drug testing procedure with them your input would be greatly appreciated in regards to how far they go back and how they test their interns. reason i ask is because i might and thats a big iffy might, get a chance at an interview with them, and the last (and only) time ive smoked was last year in june of 2010, tried it once twas horrible for me, vowed never to do it again so im drug free now not an addict or anything like that. just dont' want something stupid like that to ruin my internship chances or a possible career. any input is appreciated, especially from those who have undergone the process, thanks

The goal of most drug tests is to see if you are currently using drugs not to see if you have ever used drugs. That said it will probably be a urine or blood test.

I think you’re fine if that’s the last time you smoked, no matter what kind of test they use.

alright norris thanks for the reassurance, but i hear that they also use body hair for the test adn that the trace in body hair goes back years, is this true? im assuming you have experience in this but if not either ways fine. and utpg if they do do a blood test, any clue as to how far back they go for the blood test or how long the trace stays in the blood? again im assuming you guys have undergone the process but if not thanks anyways anymore input would be welcome, if anyone else can help as well tha twould be great since im ****ting bricks right now dont want something like this to hold me back.

If it’s THC you’re worried about, I believe it stays in your system for between 2 weeks and a month due to the fact that it is fat soluble. However, if you do some exercise (burn some fat) and drink a lot of water, it should decrease residence time in your body. I also hear cranberry juice helps a lot.

Don’t ask how I know this.

well i have excercised a bit since then only for fall semester though cuz i was taking a physical education class, but haven’t done that since, ran a mile once a week. but is the 12 year thing true? thats whats freaking me out the most over here

No, that’s not true. If it’s over a month I would not worry about it in the slightest. I guess a hair test could come up positive but I have never heard of a company using it on potential employees, let alone interns. I believe they only use those in court cases. They’ll probably just take a urine sample and you’ll be negative. Nothing to worry about.

u sure theyll just take urin sample? cuz i know someone who works for chevron and they had to take a hair test, and thats another source tha ttold me that they go back 12 years or so…please help any input is appreciated

Clearly you have no other option but to go bald.

Edit: Everywhere.

You smoked once almost a year ago you don’t have anything to worry about.

alright thanks for the input guys, but does anyone know if the bit about the test going back 12 years is true or not?

Many companies use hair tests, Chevron being one of them. They use urine and hair from the back of your head. They go to body hair only if you are bald.

hair tests only go back 90 days so it shouldnt be much of a problem and smoking only once should not show up on a hair test (the rule of thumb is 3x+ within 90 days). And just to clear things up I worked for an oil company last quarter as a co-op and they performed a hair test, so companies do in fact use them.

As far as the exercising and cranberry juice, that may work for urine but not for hair. There are ways to go around hair tests but it usually involves bleaching and redying your hair several times in order to completely damage your hair cuticles.

90 days what company was this if you don’t mind me asking viciouspoultry? and also, ive been told if they take hair from my head i shoudl be fine, but im still not sure if i’m safe for the body hair as well, i read/heard on various websites/people that detection times for body hair is much longer than head hair, is this true? considering i’ve smoked probly about 3 to 4 times last year in may/june would that still show up on a body test? thanks for any input and thanks for what you guys have given me so far, just need to know for sure for at least the body hair part cuz im just freaking out right now so thanks for bearing with me

A lot of my friends got soccer scholarships and they’re routinely drug tested. From what they tell me, 60 days is how long you’ve got before it’s gone. You’re well past that, so don’t worry.

I dont want to reveal the company in order to maintain anonymity but its a relatively large multinational oil company. I doubt they will take it from your body since its much more of a hassle for the drug testers than just taking it off the the top of your head. And yes, body hair does have longer detection since it grows much slower but if you are honestly worried just shave or trim your body hair to the point where its impossible to take it from there. But that being said head hair is most preferred since its the most accurate and easiest method.

Understood, would you know what the detection period is for body hair? consdiering that i smoked last year in may/june you think that woudl show up on a body hair sample?

Im pretty sure it depends on where they take it, if its from the legs or arms probably 6 months to a year, while arm pits probably the same as head hair. But again I would guarantee you that they will take it from your head unless you are bald or your hair is under an inch in length. Personally I have never heard of any one taking arm or leg samples, arm pits are semi-common though.

Alternatively, you could get a full-body wax…
