Does anybody know if state boards are recognised by American colleges?
Has anyone from an Indian state board on cc made to an ivy or a top college in the US?

Well, state boards dont go very well with the colleges. They like a student being from CBSE, ICSE or IB board.
But, thats just my opinion bcoz I read somewhere on CC bout it. But, if u have exceptional SATs and ECs, ur board should not be a big problem.

Ok cool!

Also the Karnataka state board has changed its syllabus to the CBSE syllabus. So will it have the same recognition?

It should. Though, it’s best to ask these kinds of questions to the colleges themselves :)

You should send them a syllabus booklet if you’re from a state board.

@Tizil7: That’s a good idea. I think I’ll do that!

@tastycles: Oh that makes sense!

So a person from a state board shouldn’t be at any disadvantage right?

No, you shouldn’t be at a disadvantage if u have good grades and u it should be good to send ut boards’s grading system and course load to the colleges as a supplment.

K thanks!
I mailed them too just in case.

But i think I’ll just stick with CBSE.

My high school was under a state board.

Stanford replied saying they would evaluate the student in context to the school and opportunities available. Also a the guidance councillor can explain the rigour of studies in the secondary school report.

@tiyas: that’s nice. I see your in cornell now!

Someone I know made it in Stan’s Early Decision… and was from a State Board…
