question on recs

i'm printin out the instructions for applying to tufts, and it states that we should only include one or two 'teacher references.' does this mean that we can't include a letter of rec from somebody outside of school, such as the leader of a community service organization?

my friend is an admissions officer and he said that if you want to send additional letters of recommendation, they better add a different dimension to you. Like, if the third letter reads exactly the same as the first two about the same characteristics you have, that'll be pointless. If your community service org leader can tell the admissions people something important about you that is markedly different from what your teachers will say, and that's an image you want to convey, then go ahead. Otherwise it's overkill, just kinda like, Hey check out all the people that like me!

awesome, thanks a lot. this leads me to another question though...should i get a rec from the leader of a comm service project i'm involved with, or should i get a rec from someone who co-founded an organization with me? the former would be a 40 year old adult, while the latter is already a sophomore at tufts. both would say about the same thing.

can someone please answer this question?
