If I apply to Phillips Exeter Academy and Phillips Academy Andover this year, but get rejected, will my chances be biased if I apply next year?
I’m worried that if I apply this year and get rejected that my chances will be decreased if I apply again next year. My application this year includes several academic achievements and extracurricular ones, but my SSAT scores were not very high. So, I was wondering if I should apply this year or wait until next year.
@AppleNotFar I’ve completed the online application, but haven’t submitted it. I’ve completed the SSAT and my student essays. I just need to ask for teacher recommendations and school report/transcripts
What are your SSAT scores & will you be taking them again in January? Have you already interviewed? A re-application doesn’t hurt you, in fact it may be helpful in terms of knowing the process and being more comfortable the next time around. Are you considering other schools, or just those two? You may want to cast a wider net!
Ask for Recommendations quickly! Also, re-applying will be fairly good because it shows the AO’s interest and determination. I also agree with @GMC2918 about applying to other schools. Andover and Exeter are competitive! Good luck!
Apply! You have nothing to lose! If you get rejected and apply again next year, it won’t count against you. You will get points for any improvement in your academics, test scores, or extra-curriculars and they will KNOW that you are serious about attending. Remember: Admissions officers measure their success in two ways. 1) Can they increase the popularity and prestige of the school by growing the number of applicants? and 2) Yield: Do most of the kids admitted end up choosing to enroll in their particular school. By reapplying, you will be indicating that you are serious about Exeter and will absolutely enroll if offered a spot.
