Hey there, my name is Mathewos and I live in Asmara, Eritrea. I am currently in my last year of high school and I have already gotten accepted to UCI. However, I am really confused about my residency status. As I have not attended high school in California at all, I believe I am not a resident in that case. However, both my parents are California residents, so am I a California resident by law and do i qualify for in-state tuition?
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

You must be continuously physically present in California for more than one year (366 days) immediately prior to the residence determination date of the term for which you request resident status. If you moved to California primarily to attend the University of California, you are here for educational purposes and may not be eligible for a resident classification for purposes of tuition.
I looked into https://ucop.edu/residency/faq.html and it says under the question “Is there a fast track to residency?” that “To be a resident for tuition purposes, undergraduate students generally must either have parent(s) who are considered California residents”. In this case, both my parents are California residents, and I am under 18 even when joining college so i would be considered as a resident for tuition purposes right?
Do your parents pay CA taxes? Are their employers in CA?
Your residency status is based on where your parents reside. If they reside in California and are US citizens, then you are a California resident for tuition purposes.
