I called the UC Davis admissions office to ask, but their response wasn't clear.

I earned a C in first semester calc. If I retake the same class and earn an A or B, will the class with a C be factored into my GPA?

The counselor mentioned that it would be counted as a duplicate, but didn't elaborate.

Only the C will count.

The only time when a higher grade will be factored in is if you originally earned a D or F and repeated the course for a C or better.

i dont think you can retake a class you got a C in. only if you got a D or F…
so youre stuck with that C…

They dont allow you to retake Cs.

Now it makes more sense as to why my teacher offered to give me a D in the class instead of a C. Wish I took her offer now =/ Oh well, one C on my transcript won’t kill me.

Would it at least be a plus on my transcript if I retook the class for a better grade even though it won’t change my GPA?

you cant retake it!

If it can’t and won’t change your GPA how can it be of benefit to you? Lol. You can’t repeat a C.

I was thinking that maybe it would look better on a transcript to show that I am capable of getting an a even though it won’t change my gpa.

Why not just spend extra time on getting an A in calc 2? Retaking calc 1 would be a total waste of time and possibly hold you back.

I would take it during the summer. I had an a in the class all the way up to my final. Unfortunately I had some personal things happen the weekend before my finals which destroyed my 3.7 for that semester into a 2.8. If I retook it, it would be an easy a since I already know everything.

But I also have a 4 on my ap test which would show it.

Yea it’s not worth the time to retake

Alright. Thanks for all your input guys. I really do appreciate it. I won’t retake it and will just show my competence through an increased grade trend in my future math courses.
