Question on Writing Identifying Sentence Errors?

hey guys i need help!!!

1) (After) the somber butler (strode) to the door and asked, "(Who) is it?" the mysterious vagrant replied, "It is (me)." (No error).

** The correct answer is (ME) It should be I instead of ME.
Question:
a) Why does it have to be I instead of me? me sounds better than I.

b) And also, isnt (strode) wrong? shouldnt it be strided because the sentence is in past tense with verbs like asked and replied????

2 The senator (will either) decide to vote against the legislation (or risk) angering the farmers (by taking away) the water rights (they deserve). (No Error)

** The correct answer is NO Error again.
Question: BUT isnt (or risk) wrong??? isnt it supposed to be TO RISK because it has to be parallel with TO VOTE????

The ‘I’ instead of ‘me’ thing is a tricky one, I think it’s because ‘I’ is used for a subject, whereas ‘me’ is used as a direct object (which isn’t the case). ‘Strode’ is the past form of ‘stride’, I don’t believe ‘strided’ is a word.

No, it should be ‘or risk’, because the structure of the sentence is basically (minus the filler):
The senator will either ___ or ___.
‘To vote’ modifies ‘decide’, whereas ‘or risk’ introduces a contrary thought.

Hope that makes sense…

“risk” is parallel to “decide”
