I have been getting mixed messages. . . Are math 53/54 and 2 Political Science courses required, or are they just some of the options available for fulfilling requirements. Also, how early can one apply to be a public health major (requirement wise)? And how hard is it to be admitted into the PH major?

Math 53 and 54 are not necessary, except for certain majors, typically including engineering, physics and math. Requirements depends on the College you are admitted to – see the individual websites for details.

For public health, you need to have fulfilled all prereqs before applying. As long as you meet the B- for Bio1B and all the prereqs under 80 units, you get in.

Math 53 can count toward an upperdiv PH req, but not a lower div. However, you probably AP’ed out of the lower div math reqs already if you’re considering 53/54
