If I were to go to U of Miami, tuition would be about $30K but I would have no housing expenses since I'd be a commuter student living at home.
Anywhere else and it would total about $45k, right?

So would it be reasonable to think that the financial aid at anywhere else would be substantially more than at UM to help account for the extra cost?

All I can say after just going through the whole process is that NOTHING is a sure bet...not admissions, not financial aid, nothing. Hedge you bets by applying to a variety of schools, including some academic and financial safties. You may want to do an online EFC calculator to gauge where you stand with regard to finances.

Most colleges do NOT meet full financial need (beyond EFC) so NO this is not a reasonable thing for you to expect. Just because a school is more expensive does NOT mean it will offer you more aid. Read some of the posts here...need based aid varies wildly from school to school. Plus the other thing you can't know in advance is how much your package will include loans vs. scholarships/grants.
